The hotly contested 15th State Senate Democratic Primary came down to the wire last night.The unofficial results have Steve Eagleton trailing his opponent by 35 votes out of over 10,000.The Eagleton campaign will file for a recount immediately to insure that every vote is counted correctly.“I owe this district, my supporters, and the Democratic Party the peace of mind that every vote was counted correctly,” said Eagleton from his campaign headquarters Wednesday.
Missouri Revised Statures 115.601 authorizes a recount when the difference in the vote totals is less than 1%.The preliminary result in last nights State Senate race qualifies easily with a margin of less then four tenths of a percent.
Steve Eagleton was born in Saint Louis and brought up in a tradition of service to the community. When Steve was 10 years old, his father, a doctor, suffered a debilitating stroke. Despite the new responsibilities Steve assumed within his family, he excelled in his schoolwork. He graduated from ClaytonHigh School in 1980 and entered the University of San Diego, a small Jesuit university in California. Steve worked part-time throughout his university career and graduated in 1985 with a degree in business administration. After working for the Teamsters and other companies to gain business experience, he returned to Saint Louis and earned a Juris Doctorate at Saint Louis University School of Law in 1996.
Steve founded Eagle Realty in 1997, a company he still owns. While in Atlanta on business, Steve met and married the love of his life, Moranda Shaw, an elementary school teacher who was twice nominated as Teacher of the Month. Moranda is active with the Coalition for Life Saving Cures and the International Reading Association. Steve and Moranda live in Kirkwood
